FPIW Policy and Government Relations Director 

FPIW is a fast-paced, statewide Christian education, public policy, and advocacy organization that works closely with pastors, Christians, and other political policy leaders to help Churches, citizens, business leaders, and other people of goodwill implement effective Christian public policy that transforms Washington state.  

We are dedicated to God’s definition of life, marriage and family, parental rights, religious freedom, and Christian social justice.  We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Policy and Government Relations Director to serve as the legislative affairs advisor for FPIW staff, plan and execute strategies for passing or defeating legislation both in state legislatures and in Congress, develop FPIW’s Christian Policy Agenda, serve as FPIW Action’s chief lobbyist, build relationships with allies, pastors, activists, legislators, and key staff, identify and mobilize voters in election cycles, build and mobilize coalitions of state and national allied organizations, initiate “calls to action,” and work collaboratively with FPIW’s staff As well as donors/stakeholders.   

This is a full time, Monday to Friday, salaried/exempt position with an organization headquartered in Lynnwood, WA that reports to the Executive Director. This role will require travel to Olympia for session on most days.

COMPENSATION: $60K + benefits 

Job Summary 

  • Presents FPIW’s policy positions to the public, government officials, and other organizations. 
  • Establishes relationships with elected officials and opinion leaders in order to influence policy success. 
  • Briefs, responds, and reports regularly on policy matters to leadership, staff, allies, public, elected leaders, and media. 
  • Monitor proposed legislation (local, state, and federal) that will affect policy priorities; assist in developing responses. 
  • Assist in developing and maintaining expert, current knowledge of relevant policies, political issues, and players. 
  • Cultivate effective working relationships within the public policy community including public officials, advocacy organizations, governmental agency staffers, and the press. 
  • Prepare written alerts, memos, reports, blogs, newsletters, e-mails, website content, op-ed pieces, speeches, and PowerPoint presentations. 
  • Track and review all legislation introduced in the Legislature for impact on FPIW issues and draft legislation and amendments. 
  • Prepare and give legislative testimony in support of bills on Christian Alliance PAC’s legislative agenda or in opposition to bills. 
  • Meet and discuss bills with legislators and legislative staff members and participate in stakeholders’ meetings. 
  • Ensure organizational compliance and file reports required by federal and state election, campaign finance, and lobbying laws. 
  • Manage Voter Guides, policy agendas, and scorecards in consultation with the Executive Director and key stakeholders. 
  • Respond to inquiries and questions from constituents and others about policy-related issues. 
  • Edit FPIW’s policy publications as needed. 
  • Other relevant duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization’s values as directed.  

Education, Skills, and Experience 

  • One to three years of experience in a legal or policy-related field required. Knowledge of and experience with the legislative process required.  Lobbying experience is highly preferred.   
  • Excellent written, oral communications skills and relationship building skills; relational – a natural networker – adept at educating.  
  • Naturally drawn to coalition building – wanting always to win new friends among allies – and among opponents when possible.   
  • Comfortable working with those holding non-Christian faith beliefs or secular beliefs. 
  • Adept at speaking. Will be called upon to testify at the state legislature, speak with elected officials and staff one-on-one and in groups, and interact with the media in support of or opposition to proposed legislation.   
  • Well-organized and self-motivated.  Able to work remotely with minimal supervision.   
  • Thrive in a multi-tasking, fast-paced work environment; able to get things done, highly efficient, cool under pressure.  
  • Team spirit that builds unity and exhibits an outgoing, friendly, positive “can-do” attitude. 
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, or equivalent, and familiarity with CRM databases.   
  • Biblically-grounded Christian, currently a member or pursuing membership in a Bible-teaching and preaching local church. 
  • Agreement with and adherence to FPIW’s Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct, vision, mission, and positions on core issues. 
  • Ability to work discreetly with confidential information.
