HB 2401

Legalizing Marijuana

Description

HB 2401, which legalizes marijuana, would allow anyone 21 and older to cultivate, possess, transport, sell, and use marijuana as long as laws concerning “dangerous activities while under the influence of marijuana” weren’t violated, and younger children weren’t purposely exposed to marijuana. According to the bill, a tax on the legal sale of marijuana would be used to fund drug education and awareness. Marijuana would be treated similar to alcohol in the rules and laws concerning it.

Why this is important to us: The cases in which marijuana is needed for medical purposes are not common enough to warrant legalizing it. Laws are put into place to protect people; legalizing a substance tells people that the substance is not harmful and only encourages addiction.
