HB 1177
Description
House Bill 1177, which reclassifies the possession of 40g or less of marijuana, specifies that persons under 18 found carrying this amount will still be charged with a misdemeanor. Persons over 18 found carrying this amount will only be charged with a class 2 civil infraction and fined $100.
Why this is important to us: Research and studies have shown just how harmful any drugs, including marijuana, are to the human body and mind. Lessening the punishment for drugs deemed less harmful then others will only reassure kids and those already addicted that this is a “safer drug” to use and is in the same category as a speeding ticket.
