That Hurts My Feelings

Yesterday, the body that governs high school athletics in the state of Minnesota voted to eliminate gender distinctions in high school athletics.

While the new policy does not change the reality that boys and girls will still mostly be competing against athletes of the same gender, it allows students to choose their own gender for the purpose of sports and breaks the ice for much more.

As a matter of state policy, it is now forbidden for schools to account for sex differences on the field, in the locker room, in the hotel rooms, or in the bathroom.

If a boy decides he wants to be treated as a girl and be part of your daughters sports team, the school is required to cooperate.

This isn’t just a Minnesota issue. Several school districts in Washington State are quietly changing local policies to make bathrooms available to students based on their declared gender rather than their actual gender.

One Washington State dad has expressed his frustration that his daughter’s teacher has decided he now wants to be a woman. The school expects the parents and the elementary aged children to act as if there’s nothing to see here.

How did we get here?

It wasn’t an accident.

The sprint toward same-sex “marriage” has been frantic. Those campaigning to restructure marriage have insisted all the while that it doesn’t fundamentally alter the way we view family and gender, it just makes marriage available for everyone.

So really, everyone wins and no one loses.

“If you don’t like same-sex marriage, don’t get one,” they tell us. “The only people who will be affected are the loving, committed same-sex couples who can emerge from the shadows of second class citizenship.”

But Minnesota is demonstrating that there are much broader implications for taking the position that heterosexual and homosexual relationships are indistinguishable.

After all, it forces you to take the position that men and women, boys and girls, are not different in any meaningful way.

These are the implications of that position.

What may be most surprising about the assault on gender in Minnesota is how quickly this next move has come.

Apparently they wanted to strike while the iron is hot.

And the iron is hot.

But why?

Because right now they have a secret weapon for which the country has no response.

Whenever they are exposed as dishonest, whenever their arguments crumble under the most basic analysis, whenever their policies are exposed as harmful for children and society as a whole, they still carry the trump card.

“That hurts my feelings”, they say.

Game, set, match.

The most powerful argument in America today isn’t an argument at all. It’s a sentiment.

But now that simple statement can stop any honest question, discussion, or inquiry.

We are being governed by a nation of three year-olds.

Three year-olds don’t think, they emote. They don’t even understand the concept of thought because they’re overwhelmed by what they’re feeling.

My three year-old believes he’s a superhero, but as the adult in the room, I stop him before he jumps off the roof.

But we live in a room where the adults are so taken by the joy their child receives from their fantasy that we have become participants in the fantasy. We prefer to watch him plunge to his death than burst his bubble.

Growing up should include an appreciation for the difference between a fact and a feeling.

But when truth no longer exists, my feelings are my facts.

That is why a nation of otherwise intelligent (and certainly well meaning) adults can argue with a straight face that sexual desires are impossible to change but gender is malleable.

And they have the nerve to lecture us about science.

Sure, there are plenty of people who have been persuaded by this parade of nonsense (and I mean nonsense literally not pejoratively), but for the most part, middle America understands it’s crazy.

We just don’t know what to do about it.

When a 90 lb anorexic girl tells you she’s fat, the proper response is to kindly help her view herself in a way that conforms to reality. There is no reason to treat gender differently, unless, “that hurts my feelings” is your kryptonite as well.

Surely, somewhere in the bowels of an asylum, a man is roaming around on hands and knees fully convinced he is a cat and offended by the fact that people treat him like he’s crazy. All he needs is an appearance on 60 Minutes and soon he’ll be Grand Marshall of his own parade with throngs of people meowing as he struts by.

What happened in Minnesota is just the beginning.

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day may one day be relics of an “intolerant” past. Women’s studies programs will be forced to disappear (well, maybe there’s a silver lining in all of this after all). Certainly affirmative action programs designed to help female owned businesses will need to be discarded. We won’t be allowed to celebrate the first female President of the United States since, you know, male and female is merely a social construct.

All just the next step in this Transgender Revolution, brought to you by, “that hurts my feelings.”

Joseph, I’m not a citizen of Washington and until 45 minutes ago I didn’t have a clue who you were.

My sister, bless her heart, sent me an email with your information on it and 5 minutes ago, you have been added to my “weekly must read” list.

Hope you won’t mind me spreading your thoughts around my own social circles, because I have never been happier to read such straight forward thinking and principle-based arguments.

    Dang, this made my day.

For starters know that there are ALWAYS consequences and repercussions to choices and decisions. You can bet your Almighty dollar that GOD WILL do his part in His own good time. In the meantime, sane citizens can organize to repeal these “2+2=3” laws that are permeating our legal system. (It is now legal to say and act like 2+2=3) but it still ain’t RIGHT! The definition of “equal” has been hi-jacked and polluted.
Boycotts have historically been effective for bringing about desired change.
The Center For Disease Control has amassed much data on the ill effects of smoking. Campaigns have been waged to discourage students from damaging their health at an early age. That same organization has a similar amount of data outlining and describing the detrimental effects of “same-sex” activity/behavior. Why isn’t there a similar campaign to discourage students from engaging in this bizarre and destructive behavior?

Joseph, your article is well written and thought provoking. Thanks for sharing it with us. I have often wondered what our schools are teaching when they say our students are learning “critical thinking skills.” There must be a new logic going around that rationalizes senselessness. And if the leaders of our teachers are skilled in the use of senseless syllogisms, imagine the behaviors our children will invent based on what these “skillful critical-thinking adults” have taught them.

Interesting their “go-to” trum card is so shallow… and yet we cower and snivel in the face of it.

We just had a new law bought for us here in Washington. I wonder how the “that hurst my feelings” to be “required” to have a background check run, at considerable expense, to borrow my neighbour’s /22 rifle to do some plinking.. then return it when done because I don’t want to OWN it. And failure to do so on the second “transfer” (the return of the one I borrowed) is a felony. I’ll be it hurts my neighbour’s feelings that he can no longer loan me his, or borrow mine. Neither of us wants to live sext door to a felon…… you know how THEY are.

Yet this “defense” somehow shows no promise of carrying any freight with the out of state deep pockets who want to “transform” us into a nation of wimps, lay-downs, mindless drones.

Ah, but I guess some monkeys are more equal than others. THEY always get their way, particulalry when they stamp their little feets and yell a lot.

Well said, Joseph! Thanks for continuing to point out the Emperor has no clothes on while so many are saying how wonderful it is that two men or two women can, according to state law, be married. We all feel sorry for those are not acting in accordance with their DNA, and tried to fix this via the ballot box. Everything is feeeelings and facts, well, who cares about that. Like the fact that we have voted in gender neutral marriage, not to say gender neutered marriage, in bowing down to the sentiment of equality and fairness, ignoring the fact that everybody had the exact same right to marry someone of the opposite gender, and nobody had the right to marry someone of the same gender–so no one was being denied a right that anyone else had. What you are describing is indeed the logical extension of this thinking controlled by feelings and not disciplined by facts. A pastor told me that the marriage papers he has to fill out no longer have ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ but person ‘A’ and person ‘B’. This had led to a serious argument between my spouse and me as to which of us is person A and which of us is person B. I’ll let you know how we resolve this. Meanwhile, my spouse gets at work now, “This is my wife” from a woman companion when asking how the other person fits in, or “This is my husband” from a man companion. Another gender specific term biting the dust. I am now introducing my spouse as my person B….

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” is largely rejected today in favor of popular truth. This is the result of widely accepted indoctrination by humanists (atheists/agnostics/pantheists) in our schools, government, media, and all nature of social, work, and political (and even some church) environments. Uncontested belief in evolution, as unproven and flawed as it is, has turned man away from God and into himself, leading to all-pervading narcissism. This is what happens when people decide that they are wiser than God and when they let raw, impulse and raw override reason, discernment, and good judgment. Since more human beings today are “feelers” than guided by God’s Word and rational thought, stupidity and evil prevail. Those of us who honor God, respect His law, and heed His warnings are being held hostage and overruled by fools. We now inhabit Sodom and Gomorrah. How can these highly vocal, wayward folks be so ignorant? Because they wear blinders and run to and fro “in the dark”, captive to Satan. Unfortunately, the majority in America don’t care or are uninformed, self-centered, and incapable, by choice, of knowing what is good and right. When we study our leaders, we see too many men and women in high positions of earthly power without character or a moral compass. How can we expect anything better when, as a majority, the American public have elected a president who smoked pot throughout high school, hung around with dangerous radicals during his young adult years, proudly rebels against the will of the people, lies continually, and arrogantly scorns anyone who will not bow at his feet? And isn’t it “interesting” how the feelings of the righteous are ignored and considered insignificant, even crazy? Romans 1:18-20, 28-32:”The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities– his eternal power and divine nature– have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. . . Furthermore, since they (the unbelievers) did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” This is our reality until Jesus, King of King, returns.

The circumstances surrounding society’s acceptance of “Abominations” is horrific. It seems that the leadership in charge of policy has lost the ability to “connect-the-dots”. That one dot is the author of the DESIGN they are systematically destroying. The slippery slope has been formed and all governors are lining up to take the plunge into the abyss. GOD is not pleased. Have THEY also changed the meaning of “IN GOD WE TRUST?” The same God that created gender will bring these dunces to their knees. The sinnin’ and grinnin’ will soon come to a screeching halt and all will wonder – WHAT HAPPENED??

    Thanks Joseph!

My wife and I were discussing something similar last night. The danger isn’t really in these new crazy policies; the danger comes from having too many mentally and emotionally stunted adults who are incapable or unwilling to analyze these policies and the underlying issues they address. They blindly support them when they should know better. Your analogy of a parent getting sucked into the fantasy of their child is perfect. Too many voters, politicians, and judges are guilty of that same kind of foolishness.

You are a great writer Joseph. Always enjoy reading your articles. So much of what is going in in our culture is so sad to witness, what can/should we do? I have contacted our legislators, I don’t believe they listen at all. I “rant and rave” often with friends but truly want to do more. Thank you for your steady efforts!
