HB 2418, which makes the names and addresses of initiative and referendum signers public, attempts to prevent petitions from containing multiple signatures from the same person, illegal voters, false statements, and fake names. The petition states that a warning against the above, punishable by fines, imprisonment or both, shall be places on every petition.

Why this is important to us: Although the petition states that opponents of the propose measure may witness the verification of the signatures so long as they make no record of them, the names and addresses are explicitly made public record in order to be copied and inspected. This will obviously pave the way for Christians and conservatives to be harassed and intimidated simply because they are exercising their rights as American citizens.
